6 days to go

On the road again soon, normally leaving NZ is easy, each time it's getting a bit harder as I get more 'grounded' and see more potential here and get more disillusioned elsewhere...however...am excited!! Seeing the small differences which really count to communities that you helped to facilitate. Singapore again...staying with Aditi for one night, then Delhi, Paratwada, Bombay, Raipur, Bombay, Singapore, Bali, Singapore, NZ: 3 and a half weeks. I'll try and blog, after all I wanted this to be more about what I do than about me, the last trip turned into a disaster however, not something you can blog about (well I can't at least)!

BINGO

Oh no. I thought I was immune to 'what the hell do I do now' crises, but am not. Working in a small donor NGO, funding small NGOs in developing countries I thought I was safe, but then I read the latest New Internationalist: BINGO, the Big Charity Bonanza (October 2005). Crikey. For example:

'Are expolitative or degrading images, especially of children, ever employed?'
'Is 'child sponsorship' - which aims to benefit some individuals, but not others within the same community - a significant source of income?' etc. etc.

Apart from the demise of my own personal sense of self worth based on charity and giving, its an enlightening read. Though I have a feeling there are some who would have come to this conclusion themselves.
